Books: the most constant of friends and the wisest of counselors are absent from the lives of 100 million children in India. As Mem Fox said, ‘The fire of literacy is created by the sparks between a book and the child reading it’, and by not having the opportunity to read books these children are missing out on the gift of literacy.
